OUR MUSEUMS
Oregon Daughters are proud to own and maintain two museum complexes which celebrate, honor, and
preserve our state’s history. Tualatin Chapter, NSDAR, has adopted Newell Pioneer Village as a strong focus of our
work in the community. We participate through volunteering for school tours in the spring and fall,
providing yard and garden upkeep to the beautiful grounds, and serving on various museum committees.
The Oregon DAR Museums are open to the public from March through October, and for special events in
the winter months. A visit to these historical sites is well worth the time for visitors of all ages.

                                                      NEWELL PIONEER VILLAGE

Located in St. Paul, Oregon, adjacent to Champoeg State Park, this museum complex takes us back to 1850’s Oregon. The Village includes the Pioneer Mothers Memorial Cabin, 1852 Robert Newell House, 1850 Butteville Schoolhouse and Teacherage, and 1849 Butteville Jail.

The Charles G. Caples House Museum Complex is located off Highway 30 on the Columbia River in Columbia City, Oregon. Dr. Caples, the first doctor in Columbia County, and his wife Lucinda built Caples House in 1870. In addition to the historic Caples House, there is the Laundry/Tool Shed, and a 160-year-old Heritage Orchard. The original Carriage House now houses the Children's Dolls and Toys Museum. Built in the 1970's, the Knapp Social Center and the Cottage enabled the complex to expand their offerings to the public.  A beautiful gazebo overlooks the Columbia River.
